"Take a Shot"
The Shaw Nature Reserve and MoNEP are teaming up for the third year to hold a Nature Photography Contest for children fourteen and under. The contest provides a great opportunity for a family outing at the Shaw Nature Reserve, one of the true jewels of our region, at the most colorful time of the year. Roam the tall-grass prairies, hike one of the trails, or stroll the boardwalk through the wetlands and document your adventures photographically. Return to the reserve several times during the contest period of March 1 and June 15, 2012 and see how much changes from visit to visit. So come on and "Take a Shot" and remember to submit your four best images to the "Take a Shot" contest.
There is no fee to enter the photo contest other than the regular Shaw Nature Reserve admission of $5 for adults and $3 for seniors. Children 12 years and under, Shaw Nature Reserve pass holders, and Missouri Botanical Garden members are free.

Shaw Nature Reserve Hours
Directions to Reserve
Prizes will be awarded for the top three submissions in each of the four categories of Flora, Wildlife, Miniature World of Nature, and People In Nature.
- Flora - any plant found at the Shaw Nature Reserve.
- Wildlife - amphibian, reptile, bird, or mammal.
- Miniature World of Nature - insects, spiders, mosses, etc.
- People In Nature - People enjoying nature or evidence of people's impact on nature.
Contestants can submit four photos in one category, one photo in all four categories or in any combination.
- Photos must be taken at Shaw Nature Reserve between March 1 and June 15, 2012.
- A limit of four photos per child can be submitted.
- Photos can be color, black and white, or cropped but not enhanced. (No frames please)
- Photos must be 5x7 or 8x10 and matted. Matting should not exceed three inches.
- Entry forms must be completed and attached to the back of the photos.
- Photos must be submitted at the Visitor Center by June 15 during regular business hours.
- Judging will be based on subject, composition, creativity, and difficulty.
- Judging will be completed, winners notified, and photos placed on exhibit by July 1.
- Photos will be on exhibit in the Reserve's Bascom House until August 30.
- All photos and prizes must be picked up at the Visitor Center by September 15 unless other arrangements are made.
SNR reserves the right to use winning photos for publication and display. All possible care will be taken in handling photographs, but Reserve staff and judges are not responsible for any loss or damage to the photos.

week.
Visitors Center: Monday - Friday 8 - 4:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday
9 - 5 p.m.
Bascom House: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. 7 days a week.
