August Field Trip – the Terpstra’s

As a follow-up to Margy Terpstra’s presentation Our Garden is for the Birds at the March meeting, MoNEP members are invited to tour the Terpstra’s property on Saturday, August 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Margy’s and Dan’s yard is a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat with two water features, songbird and butterfly gardens and partially restored woodland. Their 100-gallon bubbler pond has attracted more than 100 species of birds, including three rare or endangered species. Plantings in and around the ponds are mostly Missouri natives. The songbird and butterfly garden is in a damp meadow. A large gazebo is centrally located for viewing the birds and other wildlife. This is a private tour to give MoNEP members ideas on how to attract wildlife to their own backyards by using water features and native plants. Please let them know if you are planning to attend. You can call Margy and Dan at 314-966-4582. E-mail is hummerhaven@sbcglobal.net.
